What is a digital option?
A digital option is an ‘all or nothing’ financial instrument. By "all" we mean it is a fixed payout including the amount invested which is known to the investor at the moment the contract is made. By "nothing" we mean no payout and investor forfeits the amount invested in the contract. These types of contracts are time limited. When investing in digital options, you are making a prediction about the price of an underlying asset (i.e., a stock, commodity, currency). Specifically, you are predicting whether the market price for the underlying asset will be lower or higher than its market price at the very moment when the contract is opened. You are not required to predict a number for the price, only whether it will be higher or lower. If you believe the price will be higher, you open a ‘’CALL’’ contract. If you believe the price will be lower, you open a "PUT" contract. If at the expiry of the time limit on the contract the situation for that asset’s price is as you predicted, then your contract is referred to as "in-the-money" and you receive the payout and the amount you invested. If at the expiry of the time limit on the contract the situation for that asset’s price is not as you predicted, then your contract is referred to as "out-of-the-money" and you lose the amount you invested.
What is traded with binary options?
The terms "trade" and "trading" are frequently used in connection with digital options, but in actual you do not buy or sell anything at all. Properly speaking, with digital options you are investing, not trading. People in this industry frequently use the term because the prices for assets (i.e., stocks, currencies, and commodities) are influenced by trade in general on the world’s markets. A complete list of the assets appearing on the Weiss Finance trading platform appears on this website.
What is the minimum or maximum investment per contract?
Minimum amounts are generally about $25 (GBP/EUR/AUD). Maximum amounts are $2500 (GBP/EUR/AUD). It is possible to increase this limit sometimes, however, and you will need to discuss the question with your personal Weiss Finance account manager who can advise you about this.
